5. BRING UP CANNABIS’ TWISTED HISTORY
If you’re not familiar with cannabis’ history, check out my blog post covering the history of cannabis criminalization.
If that isn’t enough to make your parents reevaluate their beliefs even a little, your case might be a little more challenging but don’t fret!
Many of our parents believe cannabis is bad because of misinformation that’s been passed along like some tired hand-me-downs. It is our job to re-educate our families.
WHEN YOUR PARENTS SAY YES:
1. MICRODOSE YOUR PARENTS.
I repeat,
microdose your parents.
Only ONE OR TWO hits❗
Don’t give them edibles or tinctures ❗
Don’t let them smoke more, even if they claim “they can handle it” ❗
I can’t begin to tell you all of the negative experiences I’ve heard from friends. The goal is not – and should never be – to get your parents high out of their minds. You want your parents to feel enough to know they are not sober, but not enough to be faded.
You wouldn’t push a baby into a pool, but you would dip their legs and hold their hand.
2. DON’T MAKE THEM UNCOMFORTABLE.
Try to be alone with your parents. Don’t invite friends, neighbors, or extended family over. Ensure that any underage siblings are also not around. This is can be a fragile experience and they need to feel they are in a safe, judge-free zone.
3. REASSURE THEM CONSTANTLY
Tell them they’re doing great. Let them know what they are feeling is normal.
“Yes dad, your legs do feel light”
“Yes mom, that is really funny”
Remind them how excited you are that they have trusted you and taken this step.
IF THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO TRY IT NOW:
GET COMMITMENT
Are they not comfortable to try it now? When would be a better time? What’s standing in the way? Why are they uneasy?
Explain what CBD/Hemp flower is and offer them that alternative.
If they still aren’t willing, try again in a few months.
I want to know how your talk went! What did they say? Do they refuse to try it? Did they try it and love it? Comment below
